Color: Sandpainting Inspired Beauty

    I was interested in imposing some of the design elements of sand paintings onto the face. I used my own face as a model as well as incorporating other facial structures that I enjoy drawing. In order to answer the prompt, I decided to use the prominent primary colors used in sand paintings and take them out of the context of earth tones and make the image more vibrant and colorful. There is a great precedent of contemporary Navajo artists incorporating less traditional colors into their art. I used similar hues but of varying intensity to create contrast. The primary colors are still present, but with additions of complimentary colors.
